Pontotoc County man pleads guilty to assault and threat charges

Dekentrek Donneil McDowell, a 19-year-old resident of Ada, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and threatening interstate communications. The announcement was made by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

According to the indictment, McDowell assaulted an individual on June 4, 2024, intending to cause bodily harm using a dangerous weapon. Additionally, on July 27, 2024, he allegedly transmitted a voicemail threatening to injure or kill another person and that person's unborn child.

The incidents took place in Pontotoc County within the Chickasaw Nation Reservation's boundaries in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. An investigation conducted by the Ada Police Department and the Bureau of Indian Affairs led to these charges.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson accepted McDowell's plea in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. A presentence investigation report has been ordered following this plea acceptance. Until sentencing is finalized, McDowell will remain in custody under the United States Marshals Service.
