New Orleans man pleads guilty to firearm possession charge

Duane A. Evans, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana

LaMichael Jackson, a 26-year-old resident of New Orleans, has entered a guilty plea for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The plea was made on January 30, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon. Jackson's conviction is under Title 18 of the United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8).

Court documents reveal that officers from the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), while patrolling Hollygrove, observed Jackson holding a Palmetto State Armory Model PA-15 pistol. Upon attempting to flee in a vehicle, he was stopped by NOPD officers who discovered another firearm in his possession—a Glock Model 43x nine-millimeter handgun. Both firearms were loaded at the time of recovery. Due to previous felony convictions for aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, Jackson is legally prohibited from possessing firearms.

Jackson could face up to 15 years imprisonment, three years supervised release, fines up to $250,000, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy as part of PSN focusing on community trust and legitimacy, supporting preventive community-based organizations, strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the New Orleans Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney David Berman from the Violent Crime Unit is prosecuting the case.
