A Thomaston resident has admitted guilt in a federal court in Portland for possessing a machinegun unlawfully and possessing controlled substances with the intent to distribute.
Court documents reveal that Chandler Breen, aged 34, was under investigation following a tip received by the Thomaston Police Department in April 2024. The tip alleged that Breen was involved in drug sales behind a local business. A subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered a firearm altered with a machinegun conversion device, along with 9mm ammunition, substantial cash, approximately 62 grams of cocaine, around 5 grams of methamphetamine, and at least 6 grams of fentanyl.
Breen could face up to ten years in prison and a fine reaching $250,000 for the firearms charge. Additionally, he may receive up to three years of supervised release. For the drug charge, he faces up to twenty years in prison, a maximum fine of $1 million, and at least three years of supervised release. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district judge after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), with support from the Thomaston Police Department.
