Reading man receives 10-year sentence for drug trafficking

Carlos Rodriguez, a 31-year-old resident of Reading, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for trafficking fentanyl and methamphetamine. The sentencing was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. U.S. District Court Chief Judge Matthew W. Brann also ordered five years of supervised release following the prison term.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that on August 16, 2022, law enforcement used a confidential informant to arrange a methamphetamine delivery from Rodriguez. He was stopped in Northumberland where authorities recovered approximately 480 grams of methamphetamine from his vehicle.

The investigation involved multiple agencies including the Clinton County Drug Task Force, Office of the Pennsylvania Attorney General, Pine Creek Township Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alisan V. Martin prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement and communities. The initiative includes fostering trust in communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.

Additionally, this case is part of a district-wide effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office to combat heroin distribution as part of a nationwide epidemic. The Heroin Initiative targets traffickers within the Middle District of Pennsylvania with coordination among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.

Indictments are only allegations; all individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
