ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

A Bangor woman has been sentenced in U.S. District Court for her involvement in a drug trafficking conspiracy in Penobscot and Aroostook counties. Shelby Loring, 29, received a sentence of time served followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty on January 17, 2023. She had been incarcerated for approximately 32 months.

Court records reveal that between January 2018 and December 2021, Loring was involved in the distribution of methamphetamine and fentanyl. She obtained drugs from her source and distributed them to customers while retaining some for personal use. Her activities led to interactions with law enforcement resulting in the seizure of drugs, firearms, and other items.

In connection with this case, twenty-one defendants have been charged as part of a broader northern Maine drug trafficking conspiracy. Eleven individuals have already been sentenced:

- Andrew Adams (32) from Aroostook County received a 10-year sentence.

- Matthew Catalano (38) from Penobscot County was sentenced to 165 months.

- Christopher Coty (44) from Bangor received four years.

- Blaine Footman (38) from Bangor was given five years.

- Nicole Footman (41) from Holden was sentenced to three years.

- Dwight Gary Jr. (54) from Medway received time served.

- Thomas Hammond (26) from Charleston got an 84-month sentence.

- James King (55) from Caribou was sentenced to 165 months.

- Shelby Loring's sentence included time served for her incarceration period of 32 months.

- Danielle McBreairty (34) from Glenburn received a 20-year sentence.

- Wayne Smith (33) from Bangor got an 85-month sentence.

Ten others are awaiting sentencing on various dates throughout February.

The investigation involved multiple agencies including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Maine Drug Enforcement Agency; and local police departments across several towns including Orono, Bangor, Brewer, Caribou, Presque Isle, and Houlton. U.S. Attorney Darcie McElwee acknowledged the support provided by the Maine State Attorney General’s Office and the Aroostook County District Attorney’s Office.

This prosecution is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces investigation aimed at dismantling high-level drug traffickers through coordinated efforts among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
