Small business advocate pushes for permanent 20% tax deduction

NFIB member Alison Couch is actively advocating for the continuation of the 20% Small Business Deduction. Her efforts include writing an op-ed, participating in a national press briefing, and testifying before the U.S. House Ways & Means Committee.

NFIB President Brad Close expressed optimism about the new Congress and administration's pro-small business focus. "NFIB is putting this Growth Agenda out for the new Congress. We think with the incoming Administration and its pro-small business focus that there’s a real opportunity here for Congress to do some very good things for small business but also to take some bad things off the table so that they can get back to running their business and creating jobs," he said.

Couch, who is also President of Ignite Accounting & Business Advisors, joined Close at a national press briefing. She wrote an op-ed for The Washington Times highlighting the deduction's importance to her business and others she serves. During a press conference, Couch expanded on her testimony before the U.S. House Ways & Means Committee, discussing NFIB’s Growth Agenda for the 119th Congress and top issues facing Main Street businesses.

In her op-ed, Couch urged Congress to make the deduction permanent and reduce regulatory burdens on small businesses. She stated, “I have practiced public accounting for 21 years and can tell you without doubt that the 20% Small Business Deduction has been the single most beneficial tax deduction for small business owners.”

If no action is taken by Congress, taxes will rise on over 30 million small businesses by year-end. NFIB encourages supporters to amplify their message by sending personalized emails to Congress.
