Jonathan D. Ross U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas

Robert Wilburn, a multi-convicted felon, has been sentenced to 100 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon. The sentence was announced by Jonathan D. Ross, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas, and delivered by United States District Judge Lee P. Rudofsky.

The case dates back to March 15, 2022, when deputies from the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office found Wilburn asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle stopped on the roadside. Upon waking him, deputies detected the smell of intoxicants and marijuana. A search revealed a Glock 43, 9mm firearm with a loaded magazine and one round in the chamber next to the center console. Additionally, they found matching ammunition in the center console and another magazine in the glovebox. An open beer can was discovered in the cup holder along with marijuana in the driver’s side door pocket.

Wilburn, aged 32 from Inverness, Mississippi, was indicted on February 9, 2023, for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was found guilty on August 21, 2024, following a two-day jury trial at the Jonesboro federal courthouse.

In addition to his prison term, Judge Rudofsky sentenced Wilburn to three years of supervised release. There is no parole available within the federal system.

The investigation involved efforts from both the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Erin O’Leary and Katie Hinojosa.
