Melanie E. Hussain, a 25-year-old resident of Crab Orchard, has pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl. The plea was entered in Beckley, West Virginia.
Court documents reveal that on November 2, 2022, Hussain sold about 4.2 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant for $300. She also admitted to selling 2.3 grams of methamphetamine to the same informant for another $300 on November 3, 2022. Both transactions took place at her home in Crab Orchard.
Hussain's sentencing is set for June 12, 2025. She could face up to 20 years in prison, a minimum of three years under supervised release, and a fine reaching $1 million.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Will Thompson who praised the efforts of the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit. This unit includes officers from the West Virginia State Police, Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, and Beckley Police Department.
United States Magistrate Judge Omar J. Aboulhosn oversaw the hearing while Assistant United States Attorney Brian D. Parsons is handling the prosecution.
