Nikolas Kerest U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Vermont

Madison Carrig, a 30-year-old resident of Whitehall, New York, has been sentenced to four months in prison by the United States District Court in Burlington. This decision follows her guilty plea to charges of access device fraud. Chief U.S. District Judge Christina Reiss has also ordered Carrig to pay $141,000 in restitution and serve three years of supervised release after her prison term ends. Carrig is required to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on March 18 to begin her sentence.

The case against Carrig began last July when the United States Attorney filed an information charging her with two counts of access device fraud. She pleaded guilty in August. According to court documents, between September 2022 and February 2023, Carrig was employed as the office manager for two automobile dealerships in central Vermont. Her responsibilities included supervising accounting activities, signing checks, initiating wire transfers, and making deposits into the dealerships' bank accounts. She also had a company credit card for business-related purchases.

From February 2023 until November 27, 2023, Carrig worked as the controller at a third automobile dealership in Rutland, Vermont. In this role too she had similar financial authority and access to a company credit card.

During her employment at these dealerships, Carrig defrauded them out of approximately $140,000 by embezzling cash receipts from customers and misusing company credit cards for personal purchases.

The Vermont State Police conducted the investigation into this case. Madison Carrig is represented by Natasha Sen, Esq., while Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Waples is handling prosecution duties.
