A federal grand jury in Topeka has indicted a Kansas resident on charges related to child sexual abuse materials. According to court documents, Joseph Donald Dube, 38, of Topeka, faces one count of possession of such materials.

Dube is accused of "knowingly accessing and possessing materials depicting minors under 12 years of age engaging in sexually explicit conduct." He made his initial court appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge at the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas.

The investigation into this case is being conducted by the U.S. Secret Service and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI). Assistant U.S. Attorney Steve Hunting is responsible for prosecuting the case.

This indictment falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project aims to use federal, state, and local resources to identify and prosecute those who exploit children online and rescue victims.

"An indictment is merely an allegation," notes the release, "and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law."
