Robert Paul Anthony Aragon, a 31-year-old resident of California, has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit.

Court records reveal that Aragon was stopped in Owyhee County for a traffic violation. During the stop, a K9 trained to detect controlled substances conducted an open-air sniff around his vehicle and alerted officers to the presence of drugs. A subsequent search uncovered 25 pounds of methamphetamine, 2.2 pounds (one kilo) of cocaine, and a Glock 27 firearm equipped with an extended magazine carrying 22 rounds.

Senior U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill has also mandated that Aragon serve five years of supervised release following his prison term.

U.S. Attorney Hurwit praised the efforts of the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Nampa Police Department Special Investigations Unit, the Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Idaho State Police for their roles in leading to Aragon's charges and arrest. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David Morse.
