Matthew M. Graves U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia
Elijah Porter, a 20-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has entered a guilty plea in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia for charges stemming from two armed robberies that occurred in 2023. This development was announced by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr., and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
Porter admitted to committing armed robbery on December 2, 2023. He also pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to commit robbery related to an incident on November 8, 2023. The sentencing hearing is set for May 30, 2025, under Superior Court Judge Deborah Israel.
The prosecution's evidence revealed that on December 2, Porter used a fake Facebook account to respond to an advertisement for an Apple MacBook on Facebook Marketplace. He arranged a meeting with the seller in the 1300 block of Orren Street NE. Upon arrival, he requested to inspect the MacBook and then brandished what appeared to be a black handgun before stealing it. A search at Porter's residence two days later led to the recovery of the stolen MacBook.
In another incident on November 8, Porter posted a false advertisement for Apple iPhones using a fake Facebook account. After arranging a meeting with an interested buyer at the same location as before, Porter and an accomplice entered the victim's vehicle and struck them in the face with what seemed like a handgun before robbing them of personal belongings.
Porter was apprehended by authorities on December 4, 2023, and has remained in custody since his arrest.
The case investigation was conducted by the Metropolitan Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Travis Wolf.
