Georgia man sentenced for role in West Virginia meth trafficking

William S. Thompson U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia

Nehmiah Allen-Griggs, known as "Newski," has been sentenced to ten years in prison for distributing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. Following his prison term, Allen-Griggs will be subject to five years of supervised release. He was involved in a drug trafficking organization that distributed large amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl in the Southern District of West Virginia.

Court records indicate that on March 1, 2023, Allen-Griggs sold approximately one pound of methamphetamine to a confidential informant for $2,000 in a Huntington parking lot. Later that year, on November 15, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a residence on Highlawn Avenue in Huntington. During the search, they seized methamphetamine, fentanyl, firearms including a shotgun and pistols with ammunition. Allen-Griggs admitted the residence was used for storing and distributing drugs.

Allen-Griggs is one of 27 individuals indicted in connection with this drug trafficking operation. The indictment alleges these individuals distributed methamphetamine and fentanyl transported from Detroit, Michigan to various locations within the Southern District of West Virginia. So far, 22 defendants have pleaded guilty in the main case.

The investigation was conducted by several law enforcement agencies including the FBI, DEA, ATF and local police departments under the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF). This task force focuses on dismantling major drug trafficking organizations threatening public safety and national security.

United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the sentencing while commending the investigative work done by multiple agencies involved. United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers imposed the sentence with Assistant United States Attorneys Joseph F. Adams and Stephanie Taylor prosecuting the case.

This case forms part of OCDETF's mission to disrupt significant drug trafficking organizations through collaborative efforts between federal and local law enforcement agencies.
