United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced that Nicandro Garcia Perez, a 40-year-old from Mexico, was sentenced in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska. The sentencing took place on February 6, 2025, for one count of possession with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine. United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis handed down a sentence of 46 months in prison. In the federal system, there is no parole. Following his release, Garcia Perez will serve a two-year term of supervised release.
The case began on June 9, 2023, when Garcia Perez was approached by a Nebraska State Patrol trooper at a rest stop along Interstate 80 near York, Nebraska. After conversing for some time, the trooper requested and received consent from Garcia Perez to search his vehicle. During the search, the trooper discovered multiple square white packages consistent with cocaine under the spare tire area and additional bricks beneath the second and third-row seats. In total, twenty-two bricks were found weighing approximately 55.86 pounds or 25.33 kilograms.
The investigation was conducted by the Nebraska State Patrol.
