A Fuquay Varina man involved in a significant drug trafficking organization in the Raleigh area has been sentenced to over 11 years in prison. David Weaver, aged 46, was sentenced to 138 months for drug trafficking after pleading guilty on November 19, 2024. He admitted to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine and one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Raleigh Police Department initiated an investigation into a drug trafficking organization in 2022. This group distributed firearms, marijuana, fentanyl, cocaine, and crack cocaine. Weaver was identified as someone distributing drugs on behalf of this organization. On May 23, 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at his residence in Raleigh. Weaver was found exiting the bathroom after unsuccessfully attempting to flush cocaine down the toilet. During the search, authorities seized a loaded 9mm pistol, ammunition, various drugs including cocaine and marijuana, and more than $11,000 in cash.
This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation aimed at dismantling high-level drug traffickers and criminal organizations using a multi-agency approach.
Daniel P. Bubar, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina announced the sentencing carried out by U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III. The case was investigated by ATF and RPD and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kelly Sandling.
