Florida Congressman Neal Dunn receives AMA award for government service

The American Medical Association (AMA) has honored Florida Congressman Neal Dunn with the AMA Award for Outstanding Government Service. The award recognizes Dr. Dunn's efforts to address challenges faced by physician practices and improve national health.

Michael Suk, M.D., JD, MPH, MBA, the AMA Board Chair, highlighted Dr. Dunn's contributions: “At a challenging moment for our health system, patients, and physicians, Dr. Dunn’s experience and knowledge are critical to shoring up physician practices and improving the health of the nation.” He added that Dr. Dunn's work on Medicare payment reform is essential for patient access to care.

Congressman Dunn expressed gratitude for the recognition: “I am honored to be recognized for advancing the interests of our nation’s providers and their practices.” He emphasized his commitment to adapting healthcare policies to meet evolving needs and improving systems for both patients and providers.

Before his political career, Congressman Dunn was a surgeon in Panama City, Florida, serving over 25 years in private practice after more than a decade in the U.S. Army. He was also the founding president of a large surgical practice with a focus on advanced prostate cancer.

Dr. Dunn currently serves as vice chair of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health within the House Energy and Commerce Committee. This committee addresses various issues including energy policy, commerce, telecommunications, consumer protection, food safety, public health research, and environmental quality.

Dr. Dunn holds a Bachelor of Science from Washington and Lee University and earned his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
