Matthew M. Graves U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia
Damion Brown, a 33-year-old resident of Washington D.C., received an 18-year prison sentence and lifetime supervision for the sexual abuse of his girlfriend's 13-year-old daughter. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Brown was found guilty on May 7, 2024, by a Superior Court jury on ten felony charges, including first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree child sexual abuse. Judge Anthony Epstein also mandated that Brown have no contact with the victim or her mother.
Evidence presented during the trial showed that on February 24, 2023, Brown was alone at home with the victim, who is his girlfriend's daughter. He entered her room while she was changing clothes and proceeded to hug and kiss her before pushing her onto the bed where he committed several sexual acts. Afterward, the victim reported the incident to her aunt who contacted the police. Brown was still present in the apartment when authorities arrived.
DNA testing linked Brown to evidence collected from the victim following the assault.
U.S. Attorney Martin and Chief Smith praised the efforts of those involved in investigating and prosecuting this case. They recognized members of the Metropolitan Police Department as well as personnel from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for their contributions. This included Victim Advocate Veronica Vaughn; former Forensic Child Interviewer Tracy Owusu; Paralegals ReShawn Johnson and Garcia Clarke; Katina Washington-Adams for assisting with witness travel; and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sarah Folse and Robert Platt who led the prosecution.
