A Dominican national, Wilmi Hernandez-Diaz, was sentenced in Boston federal court for unlawful reentry into the United States. U.S. District Judge William G. Young handed down a 10-month prison sentence followed by one year of supervised release. Upon completion of his sentence, Hernandez-Diaz will face deportation.
Hernandez-Diaz, aged 29, had previously pleaded guilty in October 2024 to the charge of unlawful reentry. He is a citizen of the Dominican Republic with a prior conviction for conspiracy to distribute heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine. After serving time for these offenses, he was deported from the U.S. on June 4, 2019.
In May 2024, Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Hernandez-Diaz upon discovering his illegal presence in the country.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Acting Field Office Director in Boston for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brian Sullivan from the Major Crimes Unit.
