Burlington, Vermont – The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont announced that three Romanian nationals have pleaded guilty to illegally entering the United States. Mura Kvec, 39, Manix Razmias, 38, and Geto Kvec, 19, admitted to a criminal complaint regarding their unauthorized entry into the country.

Court records indicate that on February 10, 2025, U.S. Border Patrol agents were alerted to three individuals walking south on Lake Road in Newport Center, Vermont. This road is adjacent to the border between the United States and Canada. Shortly thereafter, a Border Patrol Agent stopped a vehicle with four occupants traveling south on Lake Road and conducted an immigration inspection. The driver was identified as a U.S. citizen while the passengers—Mura Kvec, Manix Razmias, and Geto Kvec—were confirmed as Romanian citizens without legal documentation to remain in the United States. Further questioning revealed they had entered at a location other than an open port of entry.

During their initial court appearance before United States Magistrate Judge Kevin J. Doyle on February 11, 2025, all three Romanians pleaded guilty and received sentences equivalent to time served. They had faced potential imprisonment of up to six months.

Acting United States Attorney Michael P. Drescher praised the investigative work carried out by the United States Border Patrol.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Greg Waples. Legal representation for Mura Kvec was provided by Karen Shingler, Esq., for Manix Razmias by Michael Straub, Esq., and for Geto Kvec by the Office of the Federal Public Defender.
