Duane A. Evans, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana
Duane A. Evans has stepped down from his role as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, effective February 12, 2025. In a statement, Evans expressed his gratitude for having served in the position and highlighted the commitment of the office's employees and law enforcement partners. "It has been the highest honor to serve as U.S. Attorney for the citizens of the Eastern District of Louisiana," he said.
Following Evans' departure, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson has taken on the role of Acting United States Attorney under the Vacancy Reform Act, starting February 12, 2025. Simpson expressed appreciation for his new leadership role and committed to maintaining strong partnerships with law enforcement to ensure justice within the district. "I am extremely grateful to the Department of Justice for this opportunity to serve in a leadership capacity for the citizens of the Eastern District of Louisiana," stated Simpson.
Simpson has served as First Assistant United States Attorney since 2018 and has been with the Eastern District of Louisiana as an Assistant United States Attorney for approximately 23 years. His career began in civil law practice before he became an Assistant District Attorney in New Orleans. He holds both a BA and JD from Tulane University.
