Alexander M.M. Uballez U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of New Mexico
An Albuquerque man, Kyle Majedi, already in custody and awaiting trial on federal charges, now faces additional allegations related to drug trafficking and firearms offenses. Court documents reveal that on or about March 7, 2020, Majedi allegedly intended to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and heroin.
The indictment also claims that Majedi knowingly possessed a firearm in connection with these alleged drug activities. Due to a previous conviction for possession for sale of a controlled substance, Majedi is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Majedi is currently detained, awaiting trial on separate charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. This trial is set to begin on April 7, 2025. If convicted on these existing charges, he could face up to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
For the new charges, if found guilty, Majedi faces a minimum of 15 years and potentially up to life imprisonment, along with five years to life on supervised release.
U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Brendan Iber, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), announced these developments today.
The ATF conducted the investigation with help from the New Mexico Department of Justice. Assistant United States Attorney Natasha Moghadam is handling both cases.
This indictment results from efforts by the newly formed Firearms Trafficking Task Force. The New Mexico ATF Firearms Trafficking Task Force collaborates with state and local law enforcement agencies like the New Mexico Department of Justice, Albuquerque Police Department, Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office, Bernalillo Police Department, and Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. Their goal is to identify and dismantle organizations supplying firearms for violent acts within the community.
