Michele Beckwith Acting U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California

A federal grand jury has indicted Daryl Vinson, a 65-year-old resident of Fresno, on charges of assault and abusive sexual contact involving a minor. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.

The indictment stems from an incident on July 23, 2024, at the Veterans Affairs Central California Health Care System in Fresno. Court documents state that Vinson allegedly assaulted the minor by touching her breast and engaging in inappropriate contact. It is noted that Vinson is not an employee of the facility.

Authorities have requested anyone with information related to this case or those who believe they may be victims to submit tips online or call 1-800-488-8244.

The investigation into this matter is being conducted by the Department of Veterans Affairs Police and Office of Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorney Arin C. Heinz is handling the prosecution.

If found guilty, Vinson could face up to two years in prison and a $250,000 fine. However, any sentence will be determined by the court based on statutory factors and Federal Sentencing Guidelines after considering various variables. It should be emphasized that these charges are only allegations at this stage; Vinson is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
