Darcie N. McElwee departs; Craig M. Wolff named acting U.S attorney for Maine

The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine has announced that Darcie N. McElwee is stepping down from her role as U.S. Attorney following a decision by the new administration.

Craig M. Wolff, who has been serving as First Assistant U.S. Attorney, will assume the position of Acting U.S. Attorney under the Vacancies Reform Act. In this role, he becomes the chief federal law enforcement official in Maine.

Wolff's career as a prosecutor began in 2002 when he became an Assistant U.S. Attorney. He has also held positions as First Assistant U.S. Attorney and Senior Litigation Counsel. Before his tenure in Maine, Wolff served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Maryland for four years.

Wolff's educational background includes an undergraduate degree from Harvard University and a law degree from the University of Virginia. His early career included clerking for U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz in Maryland and working as an associate at an international law firm's Washington, D.C., office.
