U.S. District Judge John Antoon II has sentenced Richard Eugene Findley, a 63-year-old resident of Daytona Beach, to three years and nine months in federal prison. The charges against Findley include theft of government money and aggravated identity theft. In addition to serving time, Findley is required to pay restitution to the Social Security Administration, the Department of Agriculture, and the victim whose identity was stolen.
Findley entered a guilty plea on April 30, 2024. Court documents reveal that he had acquired identification documents belonging to an individual identified as E.G., including an identification card, Social Security card, and birth certificate during the 1990s. Utilizing E.G.'s identity without permission, Findley fraudulently obtained various government benefits such as a Florida driver license, Social Security benefits, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
The investigation into this case was conducted by several agencies: the Social Security Administration - Office of the Inspector General; U.S. Department of Agriculture - Office of Inspector General; Homeland Security Investigations; and U.S. Department of Labor - Office of Inspector General. Special Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Del Mastro prosecuted the case.
