U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has released its operational statistics for January 2025, highlighting significant developments in border security and enforcement activities. Pete Flores, Acting Commissioner of CBP, stated, "The men and women of U.S. Customs and Border Protection are aggressively implementing the President’s Executive Orders to secure our borders. These actions have already resulted in dramatic improvements in border security."

The agency reported an 85% decrease in U.S. Border Patrol apprehensions along the southwest border from January 21 to January 31 compared to the same period last year. Additionally, there was a 93% drop in encounters with inadmissible aliens at ports of entry along the southwest border following changes implemented on January 20.

CBP's efforts include increased patrols supported by the Department of Defense (DOD), ending the use of the CBP One app for scheduling appointments for inadmissible aliens, and terminating categorical parole programs in favor of case-by-case reviews.

In terms of drug enforcement, CBP seized over 1,000 pounds of fentanyl in January alone and noted a 15% increase in methamphetamine seizures. The agency continues to play a crucial role as America's largest law enforcement organization tasked with intercepting illicit drugs before they enter communities.

Trade facilitation remains a priority for CBP as well. In January, more than 2.9 million entry summaries were processed with goods valued at over $338 billion identified for nearly $7.9 billion in duties collection by the U.S government.

CBP also reported stopping shipments made with forced labor from China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region under U.S.C §1307 regulations valued at more than $13 million and seizing counterfeit goods worth over $291 million.

With over 65,000 personnel working across various domains such as land borders, air travel checkpoints or sea entries; CBP emphasizes collaboration alongside innovation ensuring both safety within US borders while facilitating legitimate trade travel endeavors nationwide effectively.
