U.S. Sen. Scott: NO GOTION ACT 'cracks down on companies owned by Communist China'

U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) announced the introduction of the NO GOTION Act, aimed at preventing foreign adversaries, such as Chinese companies owned by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), from exploiting tax privileges. Scott made this statement in a February 3 post on X.

"Americans elected us to represent their best interests, not the interests of our adversaries," said Scott, U.S. Senator from Florida. "My NO GOTION Act cracks down on companies owned by Communist China and other adversaries attempting to take advantage of U.S. tax privileges."

According to a press release from Scott's office, Senator Scott, along with Senators Jim Banks and Pete Ricketts, introduced the No Official Giveaways Of Taxpayers’ Income to Oppressive Nations (NO GOTION) Act. The legislation seeks to block companies connected to the CCP from receiving green energy production tax credits established by the Biden administration's Inflation Reduction Act. This initiative is supported in the House by Chairman John Moolenaar and Representatives Darin LaHood and Jared Golden, with endorsements from Heritage Action and Americans for Prosperity.

The bill responds to Gotion, a company affiliated with the CCP, which has been exploring ways to utilize these tax credits while planning to build factories in Green Charter Township and Kankakee, Illinois. According to the press release, Gotion has ties to the CCP, including allegations of using forced labor in Xinjiang Province. The company confirmed it is fully owned by Gotion High-Tech, a Chinese entity that receives government subsidies and is required by its by-laws to align activities with CCP policies. The NO GOTION Act aims to prevent such companies from benefiting from U.S. taxpayer-funded incentives designed for green energy production.

Moolenaar said in the release that "The NO GOTION Act is a commonsense, bipartisan measure that prohibits our adversaries from benefitting from the tax dollars of hardworking American families." He added that there is currently a loophole allowing IRA tax credits to go to Chinese companies and emphasized that "this legislation closes that loophole."

Scott serves as a U.S. Senator from Florida and previously held office as Governor of Florida.
