Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Raudel Miranda-Martinez, 44, has pled guilty to reentry of a previously removed alien, in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326.
Court records indicate that on January 11, 2023, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents found Miranda-Martinez at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center where he was detained for public intoxication. Checks revealed he had unlawfully reentered the United States after being deported on September 9, 2004. Miranda-Martinez faces up to ten years in prison, a fine of $250,000, three years of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee. Sentencing is set for May 13, 2025.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security in investigating this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney M. Irene González from the General Crimes Unit is leading the prosecution.
