Jamaican citizen pleads guilty to illegal reentry into US after deportation

A Jamaican citizen, Marlon Hodges, also known as "Michael Stewart," has pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal reentry into the United States after deportation. Acting United States Attorney Nelson S.T. Thayer, Jr., announced that Hodges entered his plea before United States District Court Judge Anita B. Brody.

Hodges was deported in 2016 but was discovered by federal authorities to be back in the U.S. in February of last year. On March 6, 2024, an operation conducted by the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Border Enforcement Security Task Force led to his arrest. He was observed leaving a residence on Walton Avenue in Philadelphia and entering a store on South 56th Street.

Upon confrontation by investigators inside the store, Hodges identified himself but lacked identification documents. He was arrested and found with a fraudulent Pennsylvania driver's license bearing his photograph under the name Michael Stewart. A fingerprint check confirmed his true identity.

Further investigation revealed that Hodges had been convicted of first-degree assault in Orange County, New York, in February 2005 and sentenced to 14 years' imprisonment. In March of that year, he received a Notice to Appear in Immigration Court for being an alien convicted of an aggravated felony.

In January 2006, an immigration judge ordered Hodges' removal from the U.S., which took place on April 28, 2016, after his release from prison via ICE Air Operations to Jamaica. His illegal reentry occurred at an unknown location and date.

Hodges is scheduled for sentencing on May 27. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney S. Chandler Harris following investigations by the HSI Border Enforcement Security Task Force.
