U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Los Indios International Bridge in Brownsville, Texas, have intercepted a shipment of alleged cocaine valued at approximately $616,389. The narcotics were discovered concealed within a 2011 Buick.
Port Director Tater Ortiz of the Brownsville Port of Entry commented on the operation: "Our CBP officers work diligently to ensure the safety of our community, and this is an example of their ongoing efforts to protect our borders."
The incident occurred on February 18 when a 51-year-old male U.S. citizen from Brownsville attempted to enter the United States driving the Buick. After initial checks, CBP directed the vehicle for further inspection. During this secondary examination, assisted by a canine unit and non-intrusive inspection technology, officers found 20 packages containing 46.16 pounds of alleged cocaine hidden inside the vehicle.
Following this discovery, CBP seized both the drugs and the vehicle. Homeland Security Investigations agents subsequently arrested the driver and began a criminal investigation.
