Ronald C. Gathe, Jr. U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana
April M. Leon has assumed the role of Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana, following Ronald C. Gathe, Jr.'s departure. As the Acting U.S. Attorney, Leon becomes the chief federal law enforcement officer for a region encompassing nine parishes with a population nearing one million. She will oversee all criminal and civil cases brought on behalf of the United States in this district.
Leon expressed her dedication to public service, stating, “I am honored to continue my commitment to public service as Acting United States Attorney and fulfill the mission of the Department by collaboratively working with our federal, state, and local partners.”
Prior to this appointment, Leon was First Assistant United States Attorney, making her the second most senior official in the office. Her career spans over fifteen years as a prosecutor at both federal and state levels.
Leon earned her Juris Doctor from Southern University Law Center where she participated in moot court and mock trial competitions. She also externed at East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney's Office as a Special Assistant Rule 20 Prosecutor during her studies. Additionally, she graduated magna cum laude from Howard University.
