The Department of Defense is set to align its budget with President Trump's directives, focusing on strengthening the military and enhancing national security. "President Trump's charge to the Department is clear: to achieve peace through strength," stated Robert G. Salesses, Performing the Duties of Deputy Secretary of Defense.

Secretary Hegseth has initiated a review to reallocate funds from what are deemed low-impact programs under the Biden Administration's FY26 budget. The goal is to support priorities such as securing borders and constructing an "Iron Dome for America." This review aims to identify potential offsets amounting to 8% of the current budget, approximately $50 billion.

The department's efforts are directed towards ending "radical and wasteful government DEI programs and preferencing" and redirecting resources towards deterring and winning wars. The focus will be on eliminating unnecessary spending related to climate change initiatives and excessive bureaucracy.

"The Department of Defense is conducting this review to ensure we are making the best use of the taxpayers' dollars in a way that delivers on President Trump's defense priorities efficiently and effectively," Salesses emphasized.

By refocusing its financial strategy, the Department aims to enhance its core mission capabilities while adhering strictly to President Trump's vision for national defense. "Through our budgets, the Department of Defense will once again resource warfighting and cease unnecessary spending that set our military back under the previous administration," Salesses added.
