As long as he can remember, Karston Tannis has been drawn to photography. From using a camcorder in his childhood to capturing candid moments of the BMX community in New York City with disposable cameras during his teenage years, Tannis has always felt a connection to documenting people in their environments. Now, as a portrait photographer, he travels worldwide with an iPhone 16 Pro Max.
"I love telling stories of people in places," says Tannis, who focuses on lifestyle, fashion, and travel photography. "I really live for the adventure, so I love a tool that allows me to seamlessly integrate that into a multitude of environments, whether that be the runways at Fashion Week, hanging off the edge of a helicopter, or even documenting the everyday moments of life."
In a recent project highlighting fashion designers and their unique creations, Tannis used the iPhone 16 Pro Max to capture the vibrancy of the African diaspora against Caribbean-inspired settings. The shoot included scenes from a custom-built boat on Saint Lucia's makeshift shores and fruit stands reminiscent of Caribbean and Ghanaian fishing villages and markets. Through his lens with an iPhone 16 Pro Max, Tannis brought to life rich-hued fashion designs set against these vivid backdrops.
