National Farmers Union (NFU) President Rob Larew has responded to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) decision to release the initial portion of Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) funding that had been under review.
Larew expressed cautious optimism regarding the USDA's move, stating, "Secretary Rollins’ action yesterday is a welcome first step in ensuring USDA honors its commitments to farmers and rural communities." He emphasized the challenges currently facing America's family farmers and ranchers, who are dealing with economic uncertainty compounded by the federal funding pause and staff dismissals.
The NFU President highlighted the urgency for farmers as they plan their business activities for the upcoming year. "Farmers are now making business decisions for the coming year and can’t wait much longer," he said. Larew urged the USDA to expedite its review process, release all remaining funds, and maintain continuity in vital programs.
