Roger B. Handberg, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida
A Dominican Republic national has been sentenced to 37 months in federal prison for illegal reentry into the United States. U.S. District Judge Richard A. Lazzara handed down the sentence to Yudelkis Portes, aged 43, who had previously entered a guilty plea on December 4, 2024.
Court documents reveal that Portes was convicted of conspiracy to commit access device fraud and aggravated identity theft on February 28, 2013. Following her conviction, she was deported from the United States back to the Dominican Republic. Despite this, Portes illegally reentered the country.
The investigation leading to this sentencing was conducted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ross Roberts.
