Pojoaque man charged with aggravated sexual abuse of a minor

A man from Pojoaque has been charged with aggravated sexual abuse of a minor, as announced by the U.S. Attorney's Office and the FBI. The indictment claims that Alexander John Duran, aged 30 and an enrolled member of Pojoaque Pueblo, allegedly engaged in or attempted to engage in sexual acts with a child under 12 years old between December 21, 2021, and February 23, 2022.

Duran is currently held in custody awaiting trial. If found guilty, he faces a minimum sentence of 30 years up to life imprisonment.

The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Holland S. Kastrin and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office.

The investigation was conducted by the Albuquerque-Santa Fe Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark A. Probasco is handling the prosecution as part of Project Safe Childhood. This initiative aims to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse and was launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006.
