Damien Diggs U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas

A Guatemalan national has been sentenced to federal prison for illegally reentering the United States, according to Eastern District of Texas Acting U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin, Jr.

Luis Tomas Dionicio-Coche, aged 43, admitted guilt to the charge of unlawful reentry by a deported alien. He received a sentence of 12 months in federal prison from U.S. District Judge Michael Truncale on February 24, 2025.

Court documents revealed that Dionicio-Coche was apprehended on August 30, 2024, on Roberts Avenue in Beaumont. Investigations confirmed that he was unlawfully present in the United States and had been deported or removed to Guatemala on three previous occasions: November 29, 2012; February 22, 2013; and April 11, 2019. His criminal record includes convictions for driving while intoxicated, driving under the influence, hit and run, and driving with a suspended license.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John Ross.
