U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested Jahmari Taffari Westcarth, a Jamaican national charged with assault and battery in Massachusetts. The arrest took place on January 25 in Boston.
"Jahmari Taffari Westcarth stands accused of assaulting and victimizing a family member in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He represents a significant threat to the residents of our community," stated Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations. "We simply refuse to tolerate such dangers to the law-abiding residents of our New England neighborhoods. ICE Boston stands firm in our commitment to prioritizing public safety by arresting and removing illegal alien offenders from our neighborhoods."
Westcarth was initially detained by U.S. Border Patrol after illegally entering the United States near San Ysidro, California, on December 30, 2022. He was issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge from the Department of Justice.
The Dorchester District Court arraigned Westcarth on January 8 for charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a family member. Although ICE lodged an immigration detainer against him that same day, the court did not honor it, leading to his release from custody.
Following his recent arrest, Westcarth remains in ICE custody.
