ICE deports Jamaican fugitive wanted for shooting

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has removed Leroy Neville White, a Jamaican fugitive wanted for shooting with intent in Jamaica, from the United States. White, 30, was handed over to Jamaican authorities on January 30 after being arrested by ICE.

White had been convicted in Connecticut for threatening first degree with hazard to terrorize. "Leroy Neville White attempted to flee justice in his home country and take refuge in the United States. He then continued to break the law in Connecticut," stated Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston. She added that "White is a violent criminal and presented a significant threat to the residents of our neighborhoods. ICE will not tolerate such a threat."

Jamaican authorities issued an arrest warrant for White on December 31, 2018, for shooting with intent. The U.S. Border Patrol apprehended him on July 11, 2022, near San Ysidro, California after he illegally entered the country.

Following his arrest by New Haven Police Department on December 26, 2023, for threatening first degree with hazard to terrorize, ICE lodged an immigration detainer against him at New Haven Correctional Center.

The State of Connecticut Superior Court convicted White on April 17, 2024, sentencing him to five years' incarceration—suspended after one year—and three years' probation.

On December 26, 2024, upon completion of his state sentence at Hartford Correctional Center, ICE officers arrested White again in a custodial setting.

ICE encourages the public to report crimes and suspicious activities by calling their hotline or using their online tip form.
