Paul New, a 57-year-old resident of Fresno, has been sentenced to three years in prison for his involvement in a series of pipe-bombings targeting vehicles and property. Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith made the announcement regarding New's sentencing.
Court documents reveal that between November 2022 and February 2023, New orchestrated several bombings in Fresno, causing damage to unoccupied vehicles. The incidents affected two auto-related businesses on Clinton Avenue. On February 19, 2023, a significant explosion damaged a vehicle used by a home health care business located on Fallbrook Avenue.
In relation to this case, Scott Eric Anderson, who was also involved in the conspiracy, received a three-year prison sentence on October 9, 2024.
The investigation into these crimes was conducted by the Fresno Police Department in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael G. Tierney led the prosecution.
