Joshua S. Levy, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts
An Orleans man has been sentenced to a decade in prison for child pornography offenses, as announced in federal court in Boston. Anthony Argo, 34, received his sentence from U.S. District Court Judge Myong J. Joun and will also undergo five years of supervised release following his prison term. In November 2024, Argo admitted guilt to possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) after being arrested and charged earlier in July of the same year.
Authorities identified Argo as a user of a chat application where he expressed interest in minors and shared CSAM. A search of his home revealed an SD card and several USB drives containing thousands of images depicting child pornography, including images of infants.
Court documents indicate that Argo had prior convictions for indecent assault and battery on a person aged 14 or over in Barnstable District Court, as well as kidnapping, enticing a child under 16, and distributing obscene matter to a minor in Orleans District Court.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Michael J. Krol, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in New England. Assistance came from HSI Frederick, Maryland, and the Orleans Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Maynard from the Major Crimes Unit.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. It aims to use federal, state, and local resources to apprehend offenders who exploit children while identifying and rescuing victims.
