A Pinedale man has been charged with assault using a dangerous weapon following an incident on the Navajo Nation. According to an indictment, Laberto Curley, 26, allegedly attacked a victim with a razor blade knife at a residence in Pinedale, New Mexico, on February 17, 2025. The altercation reportedly began as a verbal argument before escalating into physical violence. The victim suffered a neck laceration and was taken to the hospital.
Curley is currently in custody awaiting trial. If convicted of the charges, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Holland S. Kastrin and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Albuquerque Field Office.
The investigation is being conducted by the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI's Albuquerque Field Office with support from the Navajo Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jesse Pecoraro is leading the prosecution.
