Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani. The discussion focused on the strategic partnership between the United States and Iraq, emphasizing Iraq's stability and sovereignty. They also addressed concerns regarding Iran's influence in the region and efforts to prevent ISIS from resurging.
Both leaders acknowledged the importance of Iraq achieving energy independence, reopening the Iraq-Türkiye Pipeline, and adhering to contractual agreements with U.S. companies to encourage further investment in Iraq.
Secretary Rubio highlighted the necessity for Syria not to become a sanctuary for terrorism or a threat to neighboring countries. The Secretary and Prime Minister agreed to maintain consultations on regional issues and strengthen their security partnership.
