U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins has taken steps to ensure that food stamp benefits are limited to U.S. citizens and legal residents. This directive follows an executive order signed by President Donald J. Trump on February 19, 2025, aimed at preventing taxpayer resources from being used to support illegal immigration.
Secretary Rollins stated, "The days in which taxpayer dollars are used to subsidize illegal immigration are over," emphasizing the department's commitment to enforcing existing laws. She added, "Today's directive affirms that the U.S. Department of Agriculture will follow the law—full stop."
The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) within the Department of Agriculture is responsible for administering nutrition services to vulnerable populations across the country.
