In a series of operations over eight days, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Louisville seized three shipments containing nearly 40 pounds of Ketamine each, totaling 120 pounds. The seizures occurred on February 14, 19, and 21. Two shipments originated from Belgium, while the third came from France. All were destined for California and were mis-manifested with anomalies detected during x-ray inspections. The street value of the confiscated Ketamine is estimated at $775,000.

LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, Director of Field Operations-Chicago, stated: “These seizures demonstrate the vigilance and dedication of our CBP officers who are on the frontline protecting the health and safety of American citizens.” She emphasized that officers use their skills and available tools to prevent such shipments from reaching homes.

Ketamine is classified as a Schedule III drug used in medical settings for sedation and pain relief but is also abused for its dissociative effects. Abuse can lead to severe health issues including nausea, irregular heart rate, muscle stiffening, unconsciousness, respiratory failure, or even death. It is often abused by teens and young adults at nightclubs or private parties.

Phil Onken, Port Director in Louisville, remarked: “Our experienced officers continue to protect our citizens and their children,” highlighting these seizures as examples of quality enforcement work performed daily by CBP officers committed to stopping illegal drug flows.

The CBP's mission includes screening international travelers and cargo at ports of entry to detect illicit narcotics among other prohibited items that could harm public safety or economic vitality. As America's largest law enforcement organization with over 65,000 personnel, CBP facilitates lawful travel and trade while enhancing national security through innovation and collaboration.
