U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville, Texas, have apprehended a man wanted on an outstanding felony warrant for sexual assault. The arrest took place on February 26 when officers referred Mario Larios Vazquez, a 41-year-old lawful permanent U.S. resident, for secondary inspection after a primary check.
Port Director Tater Ortiz of the Brownsville Port of Entry praised the officers' efforts: "Our frontline CBP officers exercise vigilance as they perform their crucial duties in securing our borders and their dedication in the apprehension of this person wanted on outstanding warrants for sexual assault."
During the secondary examination, biometric verification and federal law enforcement databases confirmed Vazquez's identity and revealed his outstanding felony arrest warrant issued by the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office in Brownsville, Texas. Subsequently, CBP officers handed him over to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department for transportation to the county jail.
The National Crime Information Center (NCIC), a centralized automated database, assists law enforcement agencies by sharing information on various offenses. Through NCIC data, CBP has previously arrested individuals wanted for crimes such as homicide, escape, money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, sexual child abuse, fraud, larceny, and military desertion. It is important to note that criminal charges are allegations until proven guilty in court.
