United States Border Patrol in the El Paso Sector has officially deputized Texas National Guard soldiers under Title 8, allowing them to carry out immigration enforcement duties. Interim Chief Walter N. Slosar administered the oath to sixty soldiers from the Texas Military Department, granting them authority beyond their previous roles of observation and assistance.

“The brave men and women of the National Guard raised their hands today and swore an oath to defend this nation’s borders. They now stand alongside our Border Patrol Agents to enforce U.S. immigration laws and secure the border,” said Interim Chief Slosar. “Together, they secure our borders with the strength and commitment the American people deserve. We are proud to serve beside them in this mission.”

This new role enables the Texas National Guard to make arrests under a Border Patrol Agent's direction and supervision. Approximately 1,500 National Guard soldiers from across the United States continue supporting operations along the southern border. Nearly 5,000 Texas National Guard members remain active under Operation Lone Star, collaborating with federal and state law enforcement agencies.

The expanded responsibilities allow these soldiers to provide essential support in securing the El Paso Sector and upholding laws along the U.S.-Mexico border.
