Monongalia County man admits failure to report for federal prison sentence

William J. Ihlenfeld, II U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia

James Mansfield Davis, a 68-year-old resident of Morgantown, West Virginia, has admitted to not surrendering for a federal sentence. Court documents reveal that Davis was supposed to report to federal prison for an 82-month sentence related to a child pornography charge in the Northern District of West Virginia. However, he failed to do so and was subsequently arrested on October 15, 2024, in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Davis now faces the possibility of an additional 10 years in prison. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge who will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines along with other statutory factors.

The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christie Utt. The investigation into the case was conducted by the United States Marshals Service. Proceedings were overseen by U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi.
