Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Scott Turner, has announced plans to collaborate with builders to reduce regulatory burdens in an effort to address America's housing affordability crisis. This initiative aims to assist builders in constructing more affordable housing.

Turner, recently sworn in as HUD secretary, made these remarks during his speech at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Leadership Council meeting in Las Vegas. The event coincided with the 2025 International Builders’ Show (IBS).

"A home is more than four walls. It’s the foundation of a thriving community," Turner stated. "To decrease the cost and increase the supply of affordable housing, we will terminate these unnecessary, ineffective and costly regulations."

He committed to working alongside home builders and other stakeholders to develop long-term solutions that enhance housing affordability, stimulate business creation, and foster economic opportunities for Americans.

"It’s time we unleash the power of the private sector and the free market to build our way out of the housing affordability crisis," Turner remarked. "We are going back to the drawing board to restore efficiency at HUD."

Turner highlighted that regulatory reform is essential for establishing a stable fiscal environment. "At HUD, we are taking inventory and terminating all cumbersome regulations that make it harder for individuals and families to realize the American Dream of homeownership," he added.

Following his address at the NAHB Leadership Council, Turner participated in IBS activities by exploring new building products and innovations displayed on the exhibit floor.
