A Clewiston resident, Antowan Jabaar Cain, aged 45, has entered a guilty plea for distributing methamphetamine and possessing a firearm in connection with drug trafficking activities. Acting United States Attorney Sara C. Sweeney announced the plea on February 28, 2025.
Cain is facing significant legal consequences. For the methamphetamine distribution charge, he could be sentenced to a minimum of five years and up to 40 years in federal prison. The firearm-related offense carries an additional sentence of at least five years to life imprisonment, which would be served consecutively. Cain has also agreed to relinquish the firearm involved in the crime.
The plea agreement details that on December 12, 2024, Cain engaged in selling both a firearm and methamphetamine in Hendry County.
The investigation into this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Mark Morgan is leading the prosecution efforts.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative designed to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community organizations. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy under PSN on May 26, 2021. This strategy emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting violence prevention initiatives by community-based organizations, prioritizing strategic enforcement actions, and evaluating the effectiveness of these measures.
