Othello man faces charges for child exploitation and extortion

Vanessa R. Waldref U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington

Spokane, Washington - On February 19, 2025, a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Washington indicted Andres Burgos-Silva from Othello, Washington. He faces 11 criminal charges related to child sexual abuse material production and receipt, extortion, and making threats to victims. The arraignment took place on February 26, 2025, at the U.S. District Court in Spokane.

Detectives from the Othello Police Department found evidence suggesting that Burgos-Silva possessed child sexual abuse material involving children as young as six years old. They also discovered that he allegedly contacted several minors via social media. He reportedly claimed to have sexually explicit photos of these minors and threatened to distribute them unless they provided more explicit images.

During a search at Burgos-Silva's residence in Othello, detectives seized electronic devices containing alleged depictions of young children being sexually abused.

The investigation is conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the Othello Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Ann T. Wick is prosecuting the case.

"An indictment is merely an allegation," Acting United States Attorney Richard R. Barker stated. "All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law."
